The pharmaceutical industry is adopting technologies such as optical character recognition (OCR) and bar coding in an effort to improve patient safety, eliminate counterfeiting and reduce supply-chain costs.

These changes are requiring new Auto-ID hardware for many pharmaceutical facilities throughout the supply-chain in order to support the new systems being adopted by different manufacturers. Often this causes the need for multiple pieces of identification hardware.

SwiftOCR is one solution that pharmaceutical facilities are now turning to in order to reduce Auto-ID hardware costs and complexity. Many facilities have now turned to imaging bar code scanners due to the increased use of 2D and very small bar codes on labels that can not be read by traditional laser scanners such as those found at checkout counters. SwiftOCR enables the existing imaging scanners to add reading of standard OCR fonts to their functionality.

SwiftOCR allows pharmaceutical facilities to add an extra level of security and functionality to their supply-chains' while eliminating the need for extraneous Auto-ID hardware.
