SwiftDimension FAQs
If your question is not answered here you can post a question to the SwiftDimension Support Forum and one of our developers will answer it directly.
1. What is SwiftDimension?
SwiftDimension is an anlysis tool that determines the dimensions of a rectangular solid within an image.
top2. What dimensional information does SwiftDimension produce?
SwiftDimension provides the lengths in millimeters of the two unique sides of the top of the rectangular solid, along with the orientation of those two sides. The horizontal offset of the package within the image is also provided.
top3. What kind of dimension accuracy does SwiftDimension provide?
SwiftDimension accuracy is affected by the sample density of the image. For a 128 samples per inch sample density, SwiftDimension provides tolerances of +/- 0.25 inches (6.4 mm).
top4. What if the box I am trying to dimension is not a rectangular solid?
SwiftDimension will provide the dimensions of the smallest rectangular solid that contains the object to be dimensioned.
top5. What configuration information must be supplied to SwiftDimension?
There are a number of system parameters that must be provided. These include sample densities, package height, camera tilt and sample density variation with package height.
top6. Are there any restrictions on the color (brightness) of the box to dimension?
The background of the box must be "noticeably" darker than the object to be dimensioned.
top7. What if there is more than one box within a image?
SwiftDimension normally expects a single bright object against a dark background in an image. There is a special mode to handle two packages that are touching each other in the image, with separate dimensions determined for each package.
top8. Does SwiftDimension handle the warping of taller boxes produced by a line scan camera over a conveyor belt?
Yes, the warping is due the fact that the sample density in the direction of motion remains contast, while the sample density along the image sensor increases for taller packages. SwiftDimension handles this automatically when configured properly.
top9. Does SwiftDimension handle images taken with camera with large tilt?
Often, line scan cameras are tilted away from normal to reduce specular reflection coming back from the target surface. For taller boxes, this means more of the side of the box is visible. SwiftDimension automatically removes the sides and produces dimensions only for the top of the box. However, when a great deal of the side of the box is seen in the image (tall box with larger camera tilt), it can affect the accuracy of the dimensions produced by SwiftDimension.
